Cigna Participants & Out of Network Lab
It has come to our knowledge that Cigna Health Plan participants have a preferred in-network lab, LabCorp. What does this mean to you as a MWH patient? Labs that we send to UPH Meriter and/or UW Health are considered out of network, and you could be responsible for the bill. This can include pap smears (cytology), pathology, urine, specific blood tests, and STAT testing. If you are inpatient at the hospital, lab testing is usually considered in-network.
You may opt to go directly to the LabCorp Outpatient Lab for lab draws, which is located on the east side of Madison. MWH is currently working with LabCorp and trying to streamline a process for our Cigna participants.
It is the responsibility of the patient to know and understand their summary of benefits. The Affordable Care Act (ACA) requires that health insurance plans provide you with a Summary of Benefits (SBC), which is an easy-to-understand summary of benefits and coverage. It will also include a Uniform Glossary of terms used in health coverage and medical care. It answers many of the most common questions participants have in short, concise language. It shows the plans deductible amounts, out of pocket limits, as well as what happens if you go outside the plan’s network of providers.
We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause, and thank you for being patient with this work in progress.
