Abnormal Bleeding
Abnormal bleeding is one of the most common reasons women will go see their OBGYN provider. It can happen at any age and has many causes.
Some women may experience these situations:
- Bleeding between periods
- Bleeding after intercourse
- Heavier bleeding or bleeding for more days in their cycle
- Bleeding after menopause
Abnormal bleeding can have many causes. It is important that you follow up with your MWH provider with any abnormal bleeding. She may start by checking common problems in your age group. Some are very easy to treat, while others can be more serious. Some of the causes may include:
- Hormonal imbalance
- Pregnancy or ectopic pregnancy
- Miscarriage
- Contraception methods
- Infections
- Fibroids
- Polyps
- Blood clotting problems
- Cancer
- Chronic medical conditions
To help find the cause and diagnosis your provider may go over your health history. She may perform a pelvic exam, draw blood or order other tests (ultrasound, biopsy or more invasive procedures).
Treatment will depend on many factors and usually falls into three types. You may be given medications, surgery or maybe watch and wait. Most women can be treated with medications.
Finally, if you are having abnormal bleeding, call us today to either make an appointment or to leave a message with your provider’s team. Abnormal bleeding can have many causes and usually is not serious, nonetheless until your provider examines you, there is no way to know.
